MATHEMATICS
Welcome to the Math section! We have math four days a week from Mondays thru to Thursdays for an hour each day. Math is done at the last hour of the day so typically, if students do NOT finish during classtime, then it is for homework for the next day unless otherwise directed by me. We mark together as a class each day and the marks are recorded in the gradekeeper. On Thursday afternoons, Mr.A takes half of the class to computers while the other half stay to do math and then rotate in the same afternoon. Thursday afternoons allow more one on one help for students. Students are also encouraged to stay in for extra help whenever possible.
+ Rationale behind the Math Program
Math can be one of the most difficult and DREADED subjects for most students. Today's math programs are leaning more towards real-world applications and problem-solving. Alot of students tend to struggle in this area. We are required to use a new Math program this year and it focuses mainly on critical thinking skills rather than extra practice. My goal is to make math fun and interesting for the students (which can be challenging!). Visuals, hands on activities and manipulatives will allow students to achieve a greater understanding of real-world math applications. |
